There have been many things in my adult life that I’ve claimed were the “Best Money I ever spent” There was the heated blanket (one of the best inventions EVER), the full size griddle I discovered in college that I could cook ANYTHING on (favorite was pancakes) or the comfy pair of oversize sweats I found on clearance in the men’s dept. But really…this is the best $9 of the gift that keeps on giving that I”ve ever spent.
I never was a “work-out” person. In high school my friends and I didn’t head to the Y every evening to go workout together. I never ran for fun (what do people even think about when they run for so long?) I played sports (hello Varsity Tennis) and was active but never worked out to workout (except gym class..and dominated in things like whiffleball, volleyball and tennis). So when I heard about Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred from a co-worker, I mostly tuned her out. Until she said “only 20 minutes” then my ears perked up and I was intrigued. A workout I could do and it was ONLY 20 minutes?! Surely I had an extra 20 minutes in my day I could commit to this. But I was still skeptical. I’d attempted many workout videos in my day (favorite was Bubba til it Hurts) and ended up just feeling awkward and corny. I’ve never seen the Biggest Loser so I looked up Jillian and man, the girl is badass. So while roaming my local Target (how I ended up in the workout section is beyond me) I found her video. Only $9! So I figured…what would it hurt? So I made my purchase and was actually excited to pop that DVD in and see what it’s all about. I did my first workout and…got my ass kicked!
Jillian works with a 3-2-1 system. 3 Minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. With a short warm up and cool down session before and after each workout. She also has three levels and has modified versions of almost every workout in each session for those who might need an adaption. I remember feeling like I was dying after my first workout! My arms were so tired I could hardly pick up my phone. But I worked my way through all the levels and eventually was able to pick my favorite workouts from each session to combine them into my own personal workout. You also can do it in the privacy of your own home which adds to the convenience.
I’m not one to tell people how to work out but this is definitely worth the $9!

I’m down! Target here I come. Sounds better than Billy Banks.
